help keep me caffinated!

Some stories just feel extra special to tell. And this one has been unfolding right here on my own street.

A couple of doors up from me and my little family, live our lovely neighbours (and now dear friends) Antalia and Alex. We first met shortly after my own little one was born, and in the past two years, we’ve shared cups of tea, long chats, and the beautiful chaos of early parenthood from just a few houses apart.

So when they invited me to capture their journey into parenthood (from baby blessing to maternity sessions (yes, plural!) and now their newborn shoot) it felt like the biggest honour.

From Fields to First Cuddles

Baby Ivy made her entrance into the world right on her due date (which is quite the rarity for first babies!) and came to see me at just two weeks old. Still tiny, still sleepy, still brand new. She was an absolute dream in the studio, and the morning we spent together was calm, gentle, and full of smiles.

From the moment Antalia stepped into my studio during pregnancy, she brought a kind of openness and trust that made creating together feel effortless. We photographed one maternity session at the venue where she and Alex were married (Nettlested Place, Kent) along with their pup Archer! And another impromptu creative shoot in the wild field behind our houses. And now, getting to hold space for this next chapter as Ivy transitioned from bump to baby felt like such a full-circle moment.

The Studio (and a Little Hint of What’s to Come)

This session took place in my Maidstone studio. A cosy, sun-drenched space created for moments just like this. It’s warm, unhurried, and full of natural light, designed to help new parents feel at ease while we capture those fleeting newborn details.

There’s so much more I could say about the space (and exciting updates coming soon!) but for now, I’ll simply say this: it’s a place for storytelling, for connection, and for honouring the small beginnings of big love.

A Few Words From the New Mama

I was so touched to receive these kind words from Antalia after the session:

“From the very first moment I connected with Lori, I knew I was in the best hands to capture some of the most treasured moments of my life…
Her talent behind the lens is extraordinary. The photos she captured are stunning — so natural, soft, and full of emotion.”

(Full review below — and yes, I cried.)

Whether you’re newly expecting or your little one has just arrived, I’d love to welcome you into the studio and help you hold onto these early memories in a meaningful, beautiful way.

“From the very first moment I connected with Lori, I knew I was in the best hands to capture some of the most treasured moments of my life. Lori photographed my mother’s blessing, maternity shoot, and newborn session, each one more special than the last.

Throughout my maternity journey, I was also navigating a changing relationship with my body, learning to embrace and honour it in a whole new way. Lori was the absolute best photographer to walk alongside me through this. Her gentle nature, calming presence, and genuine kindness helped me feel completely at ease in front of the camera during my maternity shoot. She created such a safe, nurturing space that allowed me to feel empowered, and truly seen. Plus, it was super fun and creative, located in a local field!

Her talent behind the lens is extraordinary. The photos she captured are stunning. So natural, soft, and full of emotion. I am endlessly grateful for the way Lori’s documented these precious chapters of my life, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

If you’re looking for that little bit of magic to preserve your own meaningful moments, I wholeheartedly recommend Lori. She brings heart, artistry, and warmth to everything she does, a true gift!”

Newborn Photography FAQ

When should I book my newborn session?

Ideally during your second trimester. Booking in advance ensures availability around your due date and allows us to plan your session calmly.

How old should my baby be for a newborn shoot?

Most newborn sessions take place when baby is between 5–21 days old, while they’re still sleepy and naturally curled up.

My baby has spots or flaky skin — should I reschedule?

Not at all. Newborns are perfectly imperfect, and that’s part of their story. I’ll always photograph your baby with sensitivity, and gentle retouching is available if desired, while still keeping things natural and true to life.

Where is your studio located?

My warm, light-filled studio is based in the Royal Star Arcade in Maidstone, Kent. It’s designed to feel relaxed, calm, and cosy. Perfect for new parents and tiny babies.

Do you offer weekend sessions?

My studio is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. However, I do offer occasional weekend slots (there is an additional charge for weekend sessions). Let me know your preference and we’ll find something that works.

Can siblings or pets be included in the session?

Absolutely! I welcome siblings, partners, and even well-behaved dogs! These moments are about your whole family.

How long does a newborn session take?

Sessions usually last 2–3 hours to allow time for feeding, settling, and plenty of cuddles.

What should we wear for the photos?

Soft, neutral tones always work beautifully. Think whites, creams, beige, or muted pastels — anything that helps keep the focus on your baby and the connection between you. I’m always happy to offer guidance beforehand, or you can explore my Client Wardrobe too!

What should we bring with us?

Just the essentials: nappies, milk (if needed), and anything baby needs to stay settled. I have everything else ready at the studio; blankets, wraps, and a comfy space for you to relax.

What if my baby doesn’t settle or cries the whole time?

It can happen! But don’t worry, it’s completely normal. I’ve worked with so many newborns and always allow plenty of time and patience. We’ll take it at baby’s pace.
