There’s something incredibly special about photographing a family on the cusp of change.
This particular session took place just before this family packed up and moved on to their next chapter.
Mum reached out because she wanted new images for the walls in their soon-to-be new house, yes, but more than that, she wanted to capture her family in the fields behind their home. What would soon be their ‘old’ home. The home where their babies grew up. The home that, for the past few years, held onto so much of their early family life and history together.
Because homes change. Postcodes change. But those early memories are priceless.

When children see photographs of themselves with their parents on the walls, something powerful happens.
They see proof that they belong, that they are loved, and that their family story matters.
Family photographs aren’t just decoration. They’re anchors. They remind children where they come from and who they are part of. And one day, long after the toys are gone and the rooms look different, those images will still hold meaning.
As with all of my family sessions, this wasn’t about perfection. It was about presence.
Like many children often do, this little girl started the session feeling a little unsure.
But give a child space, time, and permission to lead and everything changes!
By the end of our walk, this little tot had invited me in for a drink, asked me to stay for dinner, proudly shown me her bedroom, and even asked if I would like to sleep over! I had officially become her new best friend.
This is why I don’t rush sessions and allow things to unfold organically. You have to let children move at their own pace, because connection can’t be forced. It has to be earned.

We wandered through the fields behind their home, dipped into a little wooded area, found a rope swing and let the spring air do its thing. There was running, laughter, lots of silliness… Just a family, being themselves!
And that’s where the magic always happens.
It’s easy to put off family photos.
Life is busy, kids grow, and there’s always another milestone waiting just around the corner!
But this stage, this version of your family, deserves to be remembered too.
Not just in your phone’s camera roll. But on your walls! In albums. In the places your children grow up seeing themselves loved, happy and centred.
Because one day, they’ll look at those photos and remember how it felt to be small, safe, and surrounded by the people who mattered most.
And that’s why being in the frame matters.
Whether you’re staying put or preparing to say goodbye to a home filled with memories, family photography is about holding onto what matters most.
If you’re ready to capture your family’s story in a relaxed, natural way, then I’d love to hear from you!
