From Confetti to Karaoke – A Wedding Day Full of Joy!
On May 18th 2024, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Charlie & Laurie’s incredible wedding at Oak Tree Barns in Kent — and what a day it was! The sun shone from start to finish, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and the couple themselves couldn’t have been more relaxed, connected, and completely present with each other and their guests.
As a Kent wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many beautiful celebrations, but Charlie and Laurie’s day at Oak Tree Barns was truly unique. They poured their personalities into every detail, creating a celebration that was engaging, meaningful, and above all…fun! There wasn’t a single moment where guests were left twiddling their thumbs; instead, the whole day was filled with laughter, entertainment, and love.

A Celebrant-Led Ceremony Filled With Personality
The couple chose to host their wedding outdoors, framed by gorgeous florals from @copperandmossbotanics and guided by the warm, heartfelt words of @kateandkatecelebrants. Instead of a traditional structure, Charlie and Laurie opted for something far more personal, including a Mr & Mrs–style quiz (but much less cheesy!) that involved all of their guests.
It was one of the most interactive ceremonies I’ve had the joy of photographing, and it really set the tone for the rest of the day: inclusive, joyful, and so full of personality.
And of course, I can’t not mention that confetti moment at the top of the aisle — an absolute show-stopper! Watching the newlyweds walk through a flurry of colour, surrounded by cheers and smiles, was a true highlight to capture.

One additional thing I have to highlight is just how incredible the team at Oak Tree Barns were throughout the entire day! From the moment I arrived in the morning, their warmth and organisation shone through. Nothing was ever too much trouble. No matter whether it was keeping the timeline on track, helping guests feel comfortable, or making sure suppliers had everything they needed. As a wedding photographer, working alongside such attentive, friendly, and professional staff makes all the difference, and it’s clear that Charlie and Laurie felt so well looked after from start to finish.

Wedding Morning Prep
The day began with a mixture of nerves, excitement, and plenty of fun. I loved darting between Charlie and Laurie to capture both sides of the morning. From bridal prep (complete with TikToks and prosecco!) to the calm focus of suit prep and button-hole management, there was such a wonderful energy in the air.
As a wedding photographer, I always say the morning is where the storytelling really begins. It’s those little details — the finishing touches of beauty-prep, slipping into a beautifully tailored gown/suit, fastening cufflinks, and lacing up shoes(!), that adds so much depth to your gallery.
By the time everyone was ready, Laurie and his groomsmen looked sharp and composed, while Charlie and her bridal party radiated joy and excitement, setting the tone for the day ahead.

A Day Full of Wholesome Fun
Everywhere you looked at this wedding, there was something to see, enjoy, or be part of. Charlie and Laurie’s creativity shone through in the details, from hidden cat figurines scattered around the venue, a “radio recording studio” where guests could leave messages, and even a completely DIY photo booth styled like a cosy living room (and featuring a nod to their beloved cat, Gomez)!
Their reception brought another personal touch, paying tribute to their engagement in Vietnam with incredible food from @vietvanlondon. Guests enjoyed afternoon tea on the lawn earlier in the day, complete with scones and English sparkling wine (which was DELICIOUS!), before tucking into scrummy Vietnamese dishes that reflected the couple’s story beautifully.
And then there was the karaoke!
It was such a fun, inclusive way to round off the night and it perfectly matched the relaxed, engaging vibe they had created throughout the whole celebration.

The Emotions & The Memories
Speeches will always make me cry, and this wedding was no exception. Between the heartfelt words, roaring laughter, and moments of quiet reflection, it was a joy to document the love and connections shared between family and friends.
I was also joined for part of the day by my second shooter (and wonderful friend!), Danny! Who was mostly in charge of manning the photo-booth and capturing some additional snap-shots of all the wonderful guests. Meaning, together, we were able to capture the big moments and everything in between from multiple perspectives, ensuring Charlie and Laurie’s gallery would be overflowing with memories. Which it was/is!

Why I loved this wedding…
Charlie and Laurie’s Oak Tree Barns wedding was an absolute joy to capture. Vibrant, relaxed, and overflowing with unforgettable moments. From a confetti-filled aisle to heartfelt speeches and a karaoke dance floor that kept the energy high all night long, their day was the perfect reflection of who they are as a couple.
I also want to give a special thank-you to the incredible team at Oak Tree Barns. As one of the most welcoming Kent wedding venues I’ve had the pleasure of working at! The staff were attentive, organised, and genuinely wonderful to work alongside. Their care and professionalism helped the entire day run seamlessly, creating the perfect setting for such a meaningful celebration.
