Emma & Patrick’s Elegant City Chic Wedding – A South East Wedding Photography Story

Emma & Patrick (aka Paddy) were truly the most wonderful, fun, and laid-back couple, and their wedding day was an absolute dream to photograph.

I first met Emma, Paddy, and their adorable daughter Livvi during lockdown when I was offering Doorstep Portraits to local residents of St Albans. From those first photos on their doorstep to capturing their beautiful wedding, it’s been such an honour to document their journey.

So, when Emma and Paddy reached out and asked me to photograph their wedding, I was overjoyed. Little did I know that their celebration would be nothing short of spectacular, filled with personal touches, traditional elegance, and plenty of fun moments!

Wedding Day in Cheltenham – A Perfect Day for South East Wedding Photography

The day kicked off in Cheltenham, a stunning city located in the South West but close enough for any wedding photographer in the South East to take inspiration from its rich history and beauty. The couple chose the gorgeous No. 131 for both bridal and groom prep. It’s a venue that exudes sophistication and style, perfect for capturing those all-important getting-ready moments.

The ceremony itself took place at the iconic Pitville Pump Room, a breathtaking venue in Cheltenham known for its grandeur and historical charm. With the talented (not that) Olvia Coleman officiating, the ceremony was emotional, intimate, and beautifully captured in the stunning light that poured through the venue’s windows.

City Chic Wedding Vibes – Reception at No. 131

After the ceremony, the wedding guests were whisked away on a vintage double-decker bus to the reception, which was held back at No. 131.

From signature cocktails to an elegant dining room, every detail was planned to perfection, with a Mediterranean vibe that made the evening feel like a holiday in Spain.

The reception was a wonderful blend of elegance, fun, and excitement. The attention to detail was impeccable, thanks to Lucy Ann Events, the incredible wedding planner behind it all. The No. 131 team and the staff at the Pitville Pump Room were all incredibly accommodating, making this wedding an absolute joy to be a part of.

The bride’s gown was a true reflection of the day’s elegance, complementing the stylish venue and the clear blue skies that made for stunning photographs. The wedding was simple yet full of elegance, with a City Chic vibe that will be remembered by all who attended.

Are you still looking for a wedding photographer?

From Cheltenham to the wedding reception, this day had it all. The beautiful venues, the stunning couple, and the emotional moments made for one of the most memorable weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing.

When I spoke with Emma a few weeks after the big day, this is how she described her hopes and dreams for the big day…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

We wanted a very chilled non-traditional wedding. Essentially just a day for our closest friends and family to all be together with good food, good drinks and good music

What were your colour palette and your style vision?

Again we wanted a very simple, no-fuss style so went very neutral and simple with greens and whites. Delicate petals and candles lined the aisle and were later moved to the tables accompanied by little bud vases with single flower stems. We were doing sharing platters for the meal so the main focus on the table plan was nice glasses and crockery with plenty of space for the sharing platters so we had to keep it simple.

What is one piece of advice that you would give future Brides-to-be?

Enjoy the run-up! You will be blown away at how kind and generous everyone is, so just embrace it and enjoy it all. As cliche as it sounds, do not worry about the small things; no one will notice or care. Focus on good food, good drinks and good music as that’s what most people remember and take away from the day. Try and pause and take in every moment of the day as it goes by so quickly.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

I tried to source a lot of things myself, I bought the petals from hobby craft, and I made the table numbers myself. I got the easels, table number stands and post box all from Amazon (with the postbox, I just spray-painted it and put our initials on it)!
