Whether you’re planning for a photographer to join you for your entire wedding day or just a part of it, chances are there are going to be elements of your day that either you or your partner – or perhaps even both of you – will miss, and likely your photographer will too!
So to avoid this, the best thing you can do is book a second shooter!
Most photographers will provide you with the option of booking a second shooter for your day, which is commonly encouraged if you’re wanting to ensure more of your day is caught on camera. (Especially if your guest list exceeds 100 people!)
Not only does having two photographers result in more photos for you and your guests to look back on, but it also means there are often more angles of the same moment (i.e. during the ceremony, speeches, first dance, etc) so you can relive those moments from a variety of perspectives.
Most photographers you will encounter will, more than likely, have worked as a second shooter at some point during their career, and that’s if there not still regularly assisting their photography pals on the side – just like I do!
As more and more couples are choosing to include a second shooter for their wedding, it is even more likely that your photographer will have an amazing list of contacts to call upon when looking for someone to assist them on your special day! These contacts are, more often than not, full-time professional photographers themselves and will have likely worked with the primary before, or come highly recommended by others who have.
If you’re on the fence about booking a second shooter, here are a few reasons why I think you should! …
More coverage from your morning preparations!
I am not sure when it became tradition or customary that only one partner is captured during the morning of your wedding day because, if you ask me, you’re both equally important!
Covering each partner’s whereabouts on the morning of your wedding day helps to further tell and complete your wedding story and gives each of you a little something extra to look forward to when viewing your final gallery!
Whether that’s drinks with your VIPs in the morning whilst you’re busy getting dressed or a last-minute scramble to complete the final, finishing touches to your wedding decorations!
They are all key moments that add to the story of your wedding day.
A mixture of angles during key moments of your day!
Put simply, two photographers = two different viewpoints!
As your day unfolds, your primary and second shooter will work together to ensure that our eyes and our cameras are each capturing different moments or, in some cases, the same moment but from different angles (i.e. your Ceremony, Speeches & First Dance, etc)!
Lots and lots of candids of all of your lovely guests!
There’s a lot that can be missed with just one photographer in tow. Especially if your guest list exceeds 100 people! With two photographers, we’re able to much more evenly split the workload. So whilst you and I may be off taking your romantic couple portraits or working through your group photos, your lovely second shooter will be mingling with your guests and capturing all of that fun “stuff” that we’re not able to see!
If you’re all about candid photos, then I strongly recommend that you consider talking to your photographer to book a second shooter!
